Afrobeats star Ayra Starr opened up about her upcoming album, saying it reflects a fresh chapter of self-discovery and artistic freedom.
Speaking on Apple Music Radio Takeover, the 23-year-old shared how her evolving identity as a young woman is shaping her sound.
“I’m literally becoming a woman, and it’s like you can hear that in my music now, like I’m growing sonically and I want to try different things, like just put myself out there, and have fun while doing it.”
Ayra admitted that overthinking her craft had dulled the spontaneous energy that once defined her music.
“I kind of lost the plot a bit, and I took it a bit too seriously, and it was never that deep.”
Now, she’s shifting gears focusing on fun and creative freedom. This mindset, she says, is helping her reconnect with what made her love music in the first place.
“I brought the fun back, and we’re enjoying ourselves.”
She made it known that fans can expect a more vibrant, experimental sound from her next project.
