Andrea Pirlo appointed new Italy’s head coach

Andrea Pirlo is set to become the next head coach of the Italy national team after agreeing to take over the role

The former midfielder has accepted the Italian Football Federation’s long-term proposal and is expected to complete the move once the remaining paperwork is finalized.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on X, writing: “Andrea Pirlo accepts the verbal proposal and he’s set to become new Italy head coach; here we go!

Pirlo said yes to the long-term project presented by Paolo Maldini and Leonardo. He’s set to sign in the upcoming days, waiting for formal steps.”

Pirlo’s appointment comes after talks with Paolo Maldini and Leonardo, who presented the federation’s long-term plans and convinced him to lead the Azzurri into a new era.

The 2006 FIFA World Cup winner enjoyed a legendary playing career with Italy, AC Milan and Juventus before moving into management. During his spell as Juventus coach, he led the club to Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana triumphs in the 2020–21 campaign.

An official confirmation is expected once his contract is signed and all formalities are completed.
