Afrobeats star Davido is getting real about something many artists avoid talking about .
In a recent interview, he admitted that one of his biggest worries isn’t losing fame, but staying too long in the spotlight. To explain his point, he brought up football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
“My biggest f£ar is not knowing when to quit music. Look at my good friend Ronaldo after everything he’s done for football, they still laughed at him during the World Cup. I pray to God every day to show me the r!ght time to pack it up,” he said.
For Davido, it’s about timing and legacy. Watching how quickly public opinion can shift even for someone as accomplished as Ronaldo has clearly shaped how he sees his own career.
He explained that he doesn’t want to wait until the applause fades before making his exit. Instead, he hopes to leave at the right moment, while still respected and appreciated.
The singer also shared that he constantly prays for the wisdom to recognize that moment when it comes.
His comments have stirred mixed reactions online. Some fans praised his mindset, calling it mature and forward-thinking. Others were surprised, saying they’re not ready to see him go anytime soon. A few agreed with him, noting that having an exit plan is important in such a fast-moving industry.
At 33, Davido is still at the top of his game. With global hits, sold-out shows, and a fiercely loyal fanbase the 30BG he remains one of the biggest names in Afrobeats today.
Still, his reflections tap into a bigger conversation happening in the music scene: how long should artists stay active, and when is the “right” time to bow out?
