Ashley Young has announced he will retire from professional football at the end of the current season, closing the chapter on a 23-year career at the age of 40
The former Manchester United captain confirmed the decision in an emotional statement, revealing that his final games will come with Ipswich Town as the season concludes.
Young has not featured since January after being sidelined with a lingering hip injury that disrupted the latter part of his campaign with the Tractor Boys.
Even with the setback, the experienced defender has expressed his desire to remain involved and support the team as they push towards their objectives.
Reflecting on his long journey in football, Young described his career as a dream fulfilled.
“I am incredibly proud and fortunate to have achieved everything I have during my career,”
“It’s not too often you sit and think about this while you are still in the game, but I have lived my dream during the last 23 years.”
