Comedian Funnybone believes many churches still confuse emotional and psychological struggles with spirituality, saying being born again does not automatically heal childhood trauma or behavioral issues.
He said that many young Christians are living with deep emotional wounds and bitterness from past experiences, adding that faith alone should not replace the need for therapy. According to him, a person can genuinely be born again and still be dealing with unresolved trauma.
He wrote:
“I hope that one day the church understands that some personality traits have nothing to do with spirituality, and that being ‘born again’ doesn’t erase childhood trauma or behavioral dysfunction.
Keen therapy sessions should be prioritized first. Most young Christians are living with deep childhood trauma and bitterness as a result of their life experiences, yet they assume that being born again is enough. But the truth is, you can be a traumatized, born-again Christian.
This is one reason why some of the meanest people I’ve met call themselves ‘born again Christians’ because trauma often thrives in the subconscious.
Therapy, religion, and spirituality can co-exist.”
