South African singer Tyla has achieved a major milestone at the 2026 American Music Awards, taking home two big wins during the prestigious event
The award-winning star triumphed in the Best Afrobeats Artist category, beating fellow African nominees including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema and Moliy.
She also emerged winner of the fan-selected Social Song of the Year award with her smash hit song, Chanel, making her the only African artiste to secure a win at the 52nd edition of the American Music Awards.
Tyla also set another record as the African artiste with the highest number of nominations in AMA history after earning four nominations ahead of the ceremony, highlighting her fast-rising international success.
Her song “Chanel,” which dropped in October 2025, enjoyed huge global success across streaming platforms and music charts. Reports say the track has surpassed 320 million streams on Spotify and also received nominations for Best Music Video and Best Female R&B Artist.
