Rita Edochie slams Judy Austin over moral advice

Actress Rita Edochie has issued a strongly worded response directed at Yul Edochie’s second wife Judy Austin following recent comments questioning whether an Igbo woman without a traditional title should wear the red cap, a symbol tied to chieftaincy and authority in Igbo culture.

Though she did not mention Judy Austin by name, Rita’s remarks clearly pointed in that direction as she tackled what she described as hypocrisy in public moral instruction.

In her post, Rita wrote:
“Aunty traditionalist, i refuse to follow your words and not mind your actions. you can’t be a th!ef and expect me to learn morals from you. if you used to be a th!ef and later turned a new leaf, then perhaps your advice would carry some weight because experience is often a good teacher. but to remain in the very same sin, swimming in it morning, afternoon and night, and still have the guts to advise me against certain things, it’s not only appalling but a big slap on the face of common decency. that’s an improper fraction noooow!!! it’s hypocrisy in the highest order 👌.”

She argued that advice loses value when the person giving it does not live by the same standards they promote, insisting that “experience without integrity” should not be used as a moral compass for others.

Rita also questioned what she sees as inconsistency between public messaging and private behaviour.

“Now i humbly ask, is it proper for a woman to abduct another woman’s husband and sneak into the bush with him for over four years now? i am only asking because sometime last year, the same person came out to advise women and young girls on how to stay in their husbands’ houses while she could not stay in her lawfully wedded husband’s house that helped give direction to her future. how exactly, bikonu? what tangible advice can likely come out of a desperate home wrecker?

She further stated that it is difficult to accept cultural or moral instruction from someone she believes does not consistently uphold the values being promoted.
