Letting Di’ja go was one of my hardest decisions – Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy has said that letting former signee Di’ja leave the label was one of the toughest decisions of his career

Di’ja signed with Mavin Records on February 14, 2014, and released several singles and an EP under the label between 2014 and 2017.

In 2023, she clarified that she had not formally exited the label, stating that “life happened.”

Speaking on a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, Don Jazzy recalled that the situation was tense and emotionally difficult for both parties.

He said he viewed every artist on the label as family, which made the decision challenging.

Don Jazzy noted that he no longer handled exits personally, adding that label executives Tega and Rima now managed such matters if an artist needed to leave.

He said, “One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go. That was difficult, and I don’t think I will let any artist go again by myself. Tega and Rima handle that now if they need somebody to leave the label.

“Everybody on my record label is like my child. So, that was hard for both of us. And she [Di’ja] knew that it was hard for me. She even questioned the guys in the room why they had to involve me in that. All of us started crying. It was hard.”
