Barcelona CEO, Ferran Reverter has resigned from his position after just seven months for ‘personal and family reasons’, the club has confirmed. Reverter, 49, only assumed the role in July of last year after joining Barca from German company MediaMarkt. Since then the Spaniard has been tasked with stewarding their crippling financial situation, while also leading a project to restructure the club. A Barca statement read on Tuesday February 8: ‘Ferran Reverter has informed FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta today of his wish to resign from his position as Chief Executive Officer for personal and family reasons. ‘This resignation will come into effect as soon as the club has appointed a new CEO’. In a report by La Vanguardia, Reverter’s resignation was not solely driven by personal and family reasons. It is believed the CEO has also chosen to step down because of a disagreement with president Joan Laporta over the club’s new £237million sponsorship deal with Spotify. According to Mail Online, Barca could find themselves playing football at the Spotify Nou Camp next season after penning a three-season contract with the music platform, reports Catalan radio RAC1. The deal would see Spotify blazoned across the shirts and training gear of Barca’s men’s and women’s team, while stadium naming rights are also included. Reverter is understood to have opposed the move for reasons which remain unclear, although his differences with Laporta reportedly didn’t end there.
