Wilfred Ndidi has been confirmed as the new captain of the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following William Troost-Ekong’s retirement
Troost-Ekong announced his decision to retire from international football on Thursday.
Ndidi, who led the Super Eagles during last month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs in Morocco, will now officially take over the captaincy at AFCON.

Ndidi, who made his debut for the Super Eagles in August 2015, has earned 71 caps. He missed the delayed 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire due to injury.
