Acknowledging the high expectations surrounding the Super Eagles, Osimhen insisted that neither he, his teammates, nor the coaching staff felt pressured, expressing confidence in the squad’s quality.
The expectation is really high, not just within the camp but also from Super Eagles fans all over the world. But there is not a single pressure among my teammates, myself, and the coach because we know the kind of quality we possess,” he said.
He described AFCON as a chance for Nigeria to redeem itself following the World Cup disappointment.
“This AFCON is an opportunity for us to right our wrongs and make Super Eagles fans everywhere believe there is so much more we can give,” Osimhen added.
Osimhen also apologised to Nigerians over the missed World Cup qualification. “We’re so sorry. We have to use this opportunity to say we’re sorry for not getting the World Cup ticket. I know the disappointment on the faces of many Nigerian fans. Life has happened, so we have to keep moving,” he said.
Despite the setback, Osimhen remained optimistic about Nigeria’s chances at the tournament, emphasising determination and hard work.
“This AFCON is our chance to perform well and aim to win the tournament. It won’t be easy; we have to fight for every game and every ball. We have to try to win every game and see if we can reach the final, and that’s where we’ll win it,” he said.
