Super Eagles’ new goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo unveiled after switching his international allegiance to represent Nigeria

New Super Eagles goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo, has expressed his excitement after switching his international allegiance to represent Nigeria, describing the opportunity as a dream come true.

The 24-year-old Wrexham AFC goalkeeper recently completed the process of changing his international allegiance from England to Nigeria, and is now eligible to represent the Super Eagles at the senior level.

Speaking in an interview with Super Eagles media, the shot-stopper said he was honored to receive the chance to represent Nigeria and revealed that he had long anticipated the moment.

“It’s an honour to be even given the opportunity to play for your country. I’m so excited. I can’t wait. I’ve been wanting this moment for quite a while now and to finally have the opportunity is incredible.”

It all started from last summer. I spoke to the manager and the goalie coach and they showed their interest in me and the conversations were very positive. Ever since that point, I’ve been trying to get my switch done from English to Nigerian.”

Expressing his excitement about joining the squad, the 24-year-old stated the importance of building a good relationship with the fans, acknowledging the need to connect with everyone.

“The most important relationship I want to build with them is trust. Obviously, that takes time but I want to become a consistent performer for the country. I want to be someone who they can trust in their goal for every game. But like I said, that’s a process.

“To get there, I first have to integrate with the team, learn the way we play, connect with my defenders, the attackers, connect with everyone on the pitch. I know it’s a process but I want to try and work towards this and build that trust with the fans.”
