Afrobeats artiste Skales has come under criticism following comments he made about the challenges young Nigerians face in pursuing their goals.
In a statement that has been widely shared online, the singer suggested that leaving the country may be necessary for survival and the pursuit of success.
He said:
“As a young Nigerian, your biggest dream should be to leave Nigeria so you can survive and actually achieve your dream by at least staying alive.”
The statement didn’t go well with netizens, as many took issue with his comments about life in Nigeria. While a few agreed that it reflects the difficult realities young people face in the country, others felt it presents a discouraging view of opportunities and living conditions in Nigeria.
Many have also expressed concern that the comment places relocation as the primary option for young people trying to build their future, while others interpret it as an emotional expression of frustration about prevailing conditions.
