Simi reveals the unexpected way her relationship with Adekunle Gold started

Nigerian music star Simi has opened up about the early days of her relationship with husband Adekunle Gold, revealing that the singer spent years trying to get her attention online before they eventually became a couple.

During a chat on Beat 99.9 FM, Simi shared that Adekunle Gold had been reaching out to her across several social media platforms long before they officially met in person.

“I didn’t see Adekunle Gold’s DMs until we started dating. He had been texting me on Facebook and all social media platforms until we met and he told me he’s a huge fan,” she said during the interview.

At the time, Simi was steadily carving a name for herself in the Nigerian  music scene after transitioning from gospel music into mainstream entertainment. Unknown to her, Adekunle Gold had already become one of her biggest admirers and consistently tried to connect with her online.

Their first real encounter eventually happened at Bogobiri, where Simi was performing. According to her, Adekunle Gold introduced himself as a dedicated fan, and what started as a simple connection slowly grew into friendship before blossoming into romance.

The couple successfully kept their relationship away from public attention for several years. After reportedly dating for about five years, they secretly got married in 2019 and later welcomed their daughter, Adejare, in 2020.
