Shine Rosman questions rampant se.xual harassment in Nigeria

Actress Shine Rosman has raised concern over what she described as the growing normalisation of se.xual harassment in Nigeria, warning that many incidents are ignored or not properly addressed

In an interview with Tolu Afilaka, she said harassment in crowded public places has become so frequent that many victims no longer report it, especially in busy areas like markets.

Rosman questioned how safe women truly are in the country, arguing that unchecked harassment in public spaces could point to even more serious dangers in private settings.

Rosman specifically referenced experiences in parts of Lagos such as Yaba, where she alleged that women are often subjected to inappropriate touching without any meaningful intervention from authorities or bystanders.

She aired her frustration over what she sees as silence from both the public and government, suggesting that the lack of action leaves women exposed and vulnerable.

“Do you know how bad s3xual harassment is in Lagos. Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately.

“Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it. You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.

“If the government is not going to do anything, is it not okay for us to defend ourselves?” she said.

She further stressed that sexual harassment is still treated lightly in 2026, despite its serious impact on women’s safety and dignity.

“In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, s3xual harassment is still one of the most passive things.

“If a man can s3xually harass you casually during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?” she added.
