She wouldn’t cook – Halle Berry’s ex-husband on divorce

Estranged husband of Oscar-winning actress, Halle Berry, David Justice has spilled reasons for his divorce from her during an interview.

Justice, 59, met Berry in May 1992 and married her less than a year later in January 1993. The couple divorced in 1997.

“I was young and had only been in, honestly, one real relationship before her. My knowledge and understanding of relationships just wasn’t deep. Being a Midwest guy, I thought a wife should cook, clean, you know,” Justice said on the “All the Smoke” podcast.

He added, “Then I’m thinking, ‘If we have kids, is this the woman I want to build a family with?’ And at that time, as a young guy, she didn’t cook, didn’t clean, didn’t really seem motherly.”

While many on social media criticized Justice for what they called “misogynistic comments,” BlazeTV host Jason Whitlock and contributors Shemeka Michelle and Delano Squires defended his perspective.

“There are many who downplay the role a woman plays as a wife and mother. David Justice clearly valued Halle Berry’s role in his home more than her fame as an actress,” Squires said.

Whitlock added that initially, their relationship seemed based on “looks” and “se..xual attraction,” but once married, Justice realized the reality was different.

“This culture tells you, ‘She’s rich, beautiful, powerful!’ but it doesn’t hit you until after you’ve made the mistake and entered the relationship that this might not be what you want,” Whitlock explained.
