Scotland coach Steve Clarke storms out of tense interview after 3-0 defeat by Brazil

Scotland manager Steve Clarke abruptly ended a post-match television interview after his side suffered a damaging 3-0 defeat to Brazil national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Goals from Vinicius Junior and Matheus Cunha secured victory for Brazil in Miami and ensured the South Americans finished top of Group C.

The result left Scotland’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stage hanging in the balance. Clarke’s side finished third in the group with three points and must now wait for the remaining group matches to determine whether they qualify as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.

Speaking to BBC Sport shortly after the final whistle, Clarke expressed frustration at the manner of the defeat. “We made it difficult for ourselves. That’s it,” he said when asked for his assessment of the match. “We gave them the goals and the game. Disappointing.”

When questioned about Scotland’s chances of advancing and the wait ahead to discover their fate, Clarke appeared unwilling to discuss the situation further. “I can’t even think about that. Sorry, I can’t even think about it,” he said before walking away from the interview. The Scotland manager has previously voiced his dislike of immediate post-match interviews conducted on the pitch moments after games.

Following Scotland’s 1-0 defeat to Morocco national football team earlier in the tournament, Clarke remarked, “I don’t know why we do these,” during a brief television interview that lasted less than a minute. Scotland must now wait for the conclusion of the remaining group-stage fixtures to determine whether their World Cup campaign will continue into the round of 32 or come to an end.
