Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has announced that all proceeds from the streaming of her movie ‘The First Lady’ will be donated to the family of her late friend and colleague Alexx Ekubo.
Speaking in an emotional message, Oboli revealed that she made the decision after discussions with the family, describing the late actor as one of her closest friends.
“Today we are finally laying the body of an amazing bestie, brother, dearest friend. And, you know, I’ve struggled with this for a while, but I decided to just do it anyway after speaking to the family,” she said.
Oboli explained that ‘The First Lady’ holds special significance in their relationship, as it marked the beginning of a friendship that lasted more than a decade.
“So in honour of his memory, I am releasing ‘The First Lady’, a movie that started this whole friendship over 11, 12 years ago. It’s on Omonyi TV today. The proceeds will go to the family; I mean the entire proceeds will go to the family,” she added.
The filmmaker urged fans and supporters to watch and share the movie as a way of supporting the family during the difficult period.
“So please watch, re-watch, forward to everybody you know to watch. This is just another way for me to pay my respects to him and those he’s left behind.”
She ended the tribute with a heartfelt farewell to her late friend.
“Love you all so much, besties. You are forever in our hearts, bestie. Love you forever.”
This is a touching tribute to a friendship that spanned more than a decade, while also providing support for the family he left behind.
