BBNaija Season 4 winner Mercy Eke has once again sparked conversations online after reflecting on how she deliberately prepared for her historic victory in 2019
In an interview with Bella Naija, Mercy revealed that her journey into the Big Brother Naija house was no coincidence, but a well-thought-out plan backed by determination and purpose.
“I calculated all the days we’d spend in the house and packed for the full 99 days. I was fully prepared,” she said. “When I won, I did it for every young woman who’s been told she can’t. Now, we have more female winners, and there’ll be even more to come.”
Her comments stirred mixed reactions on social media. While many fans celebrated her confidence and impact on the show, others accused her of taking too much credit.
One X user, @Detolarnee, argued, “If Tacha wasn’t disqualified, you wouldn’t have won.” Another, @Heylumi_s, wrote, “You did it for yourself, not for women.”
Still, several supporters praised Mercy for inspiring female contestants and reshaping perceptions of women in the competition. “She’s grateful, avoids drama, and keeps growing. That’s why she’ll keep winning,” said @Sassenacker.
Mercy Eke made history in 2019 as the first female to win Big Brother Naija—a milestone that not only elevated her career but also opened the door for more women to shine on the show in subsequent seasons.
