MLS bans Messi’s Bodyguard

Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi’s bodyguard, Yassine Cheuko, has revealed that he can no longer assist the player as much as before after being banned by Major League Soccer (MLS)

Cheuko, a former Navy SEAL, has been Messi’s personal security since the Argentine moved to the U.S. in 2023. The decision was made to provide added protection for the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Throughout Messi’s time in MLS, Cheuko has frequently made headlines for chasing down pitch-invading fans attempting to get close to the football icon. Many intruders were tackled before they could reach Messi.

However, MLS has now restricted Cheuko’s role, limiting his duties to off-field security and prohibiting him from stepping onto the pitch.

“They don’t allow me to be on the field anymore,” he told House of Highlights.

Speaking on the security challenges in MLS, Cheuko compared the situation to his past experience in European football.

“I was in Europe for seven years working for Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and only six people invaded the pitch,” he said. “I arrived in the United States, and in 20 months of work, 16 people have already invaded the pitch. There’s a huge problem here. I’m not the problem. Let me help Messi.”
