The Instagram account associated with the Barack Obama White House was briefly compromised after a hacker gained access and published a series of unusual posts on Sunday.
The account, @obamawhitehouse, is separate from former President Barack Obama’s personal Instagram page and serves as an archive of content from his administration.
Among the unauthorized uploads was an AI-generated image carrying the message, “The White House is under Shiites’ control.” Several Instagram Stories were also posted during the breach.
Meta confirmed that the account had been hacked and said its security teams moved quickly to regain control. The unauthorized content has since been removed, and the account has been secured.
The page had largely remained inactive for years, with its last authentic post dating back to January 20, 2017, the day of Donald Trump’s first inauguration as president.
The account is now back under its proper control, with the unauthorized posts and stories no longer visible.
