Seun Kuti has said there is no point pretending that family background does not play a role in shaping people’s lives and careers.
According to Seun addressed those who describe him as a “nepo baby” because of his famous family. He said being born into a particular family can influence a person’s path, and that reality applies even to his late father, Fela Kuti.
“You will see people online calling me a nepo baby, but even Fela Kuti, if he wasn’t Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti’s son, he wouldn’t have been Fela. Nothing comes from nothing.”
I might be a nepo baby, but my father is not on stage playing my sax for me,” he said.
Seun explained that while a family name may open certain doors, it does not guarantee success. He noted that every individual still has to put in the effort required to build a career and prove themselves.
