Elon Musk suspends acceptance of Bitcoin for Tesla cars

Elon Musk announced on Wednesday night that Tesla has stopped accepting Bitcoin for car purchases due to increasing use of fossil fuel for its mining and transactions. He zeroed in on coal, which he said, has the worst emissions of any fuel. In a tweet that took many by surprise, the mercurial billionaire said: “We are concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions, especially coal, which has the worst emissions of any fuel,” “Cryptocurrency is a good idea on many levels and we believe it has a promising future, but this cannot come at great cost to the environment.” Though Musk said his Tesla electric cars will no longer accept Bitcoin as payment, he also said the company will not sell its $1.5billion holdings in the cryptocurrency. He said the digital money will be used for transactions “as soon as mining transitions to more sustainable energy.”https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-0&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X2hvcml6b25fdHdlZXRfZW1iZWRfOTU1NSI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJodGUiLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3R3ZWV0X2VtYmVkX2NsaWNrYWJpbGl0eV8xMjEwMiI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJjb250cm9sIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1392602041025843203&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ladunliadinews.com%2Felon-musk-suspends-acceptance-of-bitcoin-for-tesla-cars%2F&sessionId=35f77b2a633d63fab6d7a107655daaaba20d5777&theme=light&widgetsVersion=82e1070%3A1619632193066&width=550px
