Crystal Palace have made history by winning the UEFA Conference League, defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the final to claim their first-ever European trophy
The Premier League side secured the title in Leipzig thanks to a second-half goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta, sealing a memorable night for the club and its supporters.
The triumph completes a remarkable two-year spell under manager Oliver Glasner, who previously guided Palace to their first major domestic trophy with an FA Cup final win over Manchester City last season. The club also added the Community Shield to their collection after beating Liverpool on penalties.
Despite the success, Glasner is reportedly expected to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires, following reported frustrations over transfer decisions during the campaign.
Palace’s European journey was not without setbacks. They were initially set to compete in the Europa League but were demoted to the Conference League due to multi-club ownership regulations involving former co-owner John Textor, who held interests in both Palace and Lyon.
Even so, the club made the most of their opportunity, finishing outside the top eight in the league phase before progressing through the knockout play-offs and overcoming Zrinjski Mostar, AEK Larnaca, Fiorentina, and Shakhtar Donetsk en route to the final.
Individual brilliance also stood out, with Ismaila Sarr finishing as the competition’s top scorer with nine goals, while Daichi Kamada contributed four assists to play a key creative role in their successful campaign.
