The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed over the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) flag to Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda following the conclusion of the 2025 tournament final.
The three East African nations will jointly stage the 2027 edition of Africa’s flagship football competition.
The handover was done just before Senegal were crowned champions for the second time in their history, after defeating hosts Morocco 1–0 after extra time in a chaotic final in Rabat on Sunday.
The handover signifies the start of full-scale preparations as the host nations move into the spotlight ahead of the tournament.
CAF’s decision represents a historic moment for the East African region, as it will be the first time Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda collaborate to host the continent’s biggest football event.
