Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has opened up about her husband Barack Obama’s financial situation when they first met, admitting he was “not financially sound” at the time.
The couple’s paths crossed in 1988 when Barack took a job at a law firm in Chicago, where Michelle was already working. On a recent episode of her podcast, which she hosts with her brother Craig, Michelle discussed the importance of having a financially stable partner.
During a conversation with British author Jay Shetty, Craig directly asked his sister, “Would you be attracted to a guy who’s not financially sound when you meet him?”
Michelle quickly responded, “Uh, I married one.”
Craig, who had set her up with the question, laughed and added, “Don’t you like that alley-oop I just threw you? In basketball, you just point—you don’t even have to say it.”
