“Baba should just resign now” – Shan George calls on Tinubu to step down

Nollywood actress Shan George has shared her candid thoughts on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tenure, reflecting on his past achievements and current challenges.

In a statement, she recalled Tinubu’s time as Lagos State Governor, noting the impact he had on the city.

“I remember when Tinubu was Lagos State Governor, he did with Lagos what Oti is currently doing in Abia State. At that time, OBJ was the President and was having some political disagreements with Tinubu, yet Tinubu forged on, and carried Lagos State with a lot of grace and panache, turning the city into an even better place than he met it.

He built MM2, dualized Allen Avenue and many other roads inside Lagos, cleared the streets of area boys, and created LASTMA, among many other good works, without much support from the federal government. It was a good time to live in Lagos then. Lagosians loved Tinubu.”
George explained that such accomplishments set the benchmark for assessing Tinubu’s capacity for the presidency.

“And so, I believe that’s the yardstick he was measured with, while weighing him for the kind of capacity needed for the role of a President.”

She also expressed concern over what she perceives as a change in Tinubu over the years. “But the President we are seeing now makes me wonder, where is the Tinubu we used to know? The Tinubu who stood and protested and won against many past bad governance right from when I was still wearing diapers? The Tinubu who fought OBJ hands down and made Lagos a heaven? The real city boy… what happened?”

Offering a personal perspective, George suggested that age and ambition might explain the shift.

“In my opinion, age happened, which is a natural call and should not be faulted. His lifelong desire has always been to become the President of Nigeria, hence the EMILOKAN surge it’s quite understandable. But at this point, even he should step down on his own, without being told. It is honourable to leave the stage when there’s still some applause. His cronies won’t tell him now; their gains won’t let them, until they push him to work himself to exhaustion. Being the President of Nigeria, the Giant of Africa, is not moimoi. Baba should just resign now.”

Shan George concluded her statement emphasizing her independence as a citizen and filmmaker.

“My name is Shan George, an International Award-Winning African Filmmaker. I am proudly Nigerian. I’m not a card-carrying member of any political party; I do not support Tinubu, nor am I currently supporting any presidential candidate. I am just a good citizen bearing my mind respectfully. I LOVE MONDAYS.”
