AFCON 2025 winner to earn $10m as CAF hikes Prize money

The winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco will receive a record $10 million in prize money, following an increase approved by the Confederation of African Football.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced the new prize structure after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Rabat, Morocco, on the eve of the tournament.

The 2025 AFCON will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

According to CAF, the winner’s prize represents a 43 per cent increase from the previous edition, where hosts Côte d’Ivoire earned $7 million after lifting the trophy.

The prize money has now doubled over a four-year period. Winners of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon received $5 million, before the figure rose to $7 million at the 2023 tournament in Côte d’Ivoire, and now to $10 million for Morocco 2025 — a 100 per cent increase.

CAF also confirmed that the runners-up at AFCON 2025 will receive $4 million, while the two losing semi-finalists will each earn $2.5 million.

The continental football body said the increase is part of its ongoing efforts to boost the value, competitiveness and global appeal of Africa’s premier football tournament.
