Nigerian music star Wizkid has revealed how his collaboration with Justin Bieber on the remix of “Essence” came together.
He said the Canadian singer delivered his verse almost immediately after they connected.
Speaking about the hit remix, Wizkid emphasized that the decision to release Bieber’s contribution was based solely on the quality of the music rather than the artist’s global status.
“Justin Bieber and I was talking and he sent his verse on Essence rmx almost immediately, it sounded good that’s why I put it out,” he said.
The Grammy winning artist added that star power alone is never enough to secure a spot on his records.
“I don’t care how big your name is if it doesn’t sound right I’m not putting it out no matter who you are,” he stated.
The “Essence” remix, featuring Justin Bieber, became a global success and helped further cement the song’s status as one of Afrobeats’ biggest international crossover hits.
