Why people see me as a Nepo Baby – Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale says people often assume his success comes from family connections because of his parents’ political background

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast with Daddy Freeze, the dancehall star explained that his father is involved in politics, adding that in Ghana, children of politicians are easily seen as beneficiaries of privilege.

According to him, that is why some people have labeled him a “nepo baby.”

The musician admitted he was raised in a comfortable home where he had access to luxury cars, overseas trips and other opportunities many people could only dream of. Even with that advantage, he said he chose to pursue  music on his own instead of taking the political route.

“I am a dadabee,” he said, using the popular Ghanaian term for someone from a wealthy family, while insisting he worked to create his own identity in the music industry.

Shatta Wale also challenged other Ghanaian celebrities to be open about what their parents do for a living, saying that many of them also come from influential or well-connected families.

Looking back, he said music was not his only dream growing up. He revealed that he once wanted to become a pilot, a lawyer or even president, adding that politics is “in my bl00d.”

Although he has previously spoken about the possibility of joining politics someday, Shatta Wale said his attention is firmly on music for now and on continuing to lead the Shatta Movement.
