Rapper CDQ has shared the story of how he left a stable banking career to pursue his passion for music.
In an interview, CDQ revealed that he initially became a banker to fulfill his late father’s dream.
However, he found the job unfulfilling and often wrote lyrics during work hours.
The ‘Nowo Soke’ hitmaker eventually quit his job to focus on music, despite the uncertainty.
CDQ recounted how he confided in music producer Masterkraft, who was shocked by his decision. CDQ assured Masterkraft that they would focus on music and predicted a breakthrough within six months.
He said:
“I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then. I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio. I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that whether it gives me a return-back or not, I’m still happy doing it.”
To their surprise, they rose to fame earlier than expected, with a deal that enabled them to move from a humble background to a more affluent area.
CDQ’s rise to prominence began in 2016 with the release of his hit track ‘Indomie’, featuring Masterkraft and Olamide. A remix with Davido further trajected him into the spotlight, marking the beginning of a successful music career.
