WAFCON 2024: Super Falcons set to face Ghana in friendly

Perennial rivals Nigeria and Ghana will rekindle their long-standing football rivalry as the Super Falcons and the Black Queens square off in a friendly match ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The international friendly between the two African women’s football powerhouses will take place in Morocco as part of their final preparations for the tournament.

The Super Falcons are also scheduled to play Portugal in Lisbon next Monday, marking their second friendly in the buildup to the WAFCON finals.

Justine Madugu’s side recently secured a 2-0 victory over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, boosting morale ahead of the continental showpiece.

The Nigerian team and officials are expected to depart Lisbon for Morocco on Tuesday, June 25, where they will conclude their preparations.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian team has already arrived in Benslimane, Morocco, for the final phase of their training camp. Ghana is placed in Group C alongside defending champions South Africa (Banyana Banyana), Mali, and Tanzania. Nigeria, on the other hand, will compete in Group B against Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.

The Super Falcons will kick off their campaign against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday, July 5.

Morocco will host the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations from Saturday, July 5, to Saturday, July 26, 2025.
