My mum told me not to marry an unemployed woman – Chike

Afrobeats singer Chike has shared the advice his mother gave him about marriage, highlighting her focus on choosing a partner who adds real value to his life

In an interview on Ada’s Room, Chike revealed that his mother urged him to avoid marrying someone without a stable source of income or someone burdened with heavy family responsibilities that could create financial pressure.

“I think everybody should look for a partner that has value. Personally, my mum advised me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood regardless of love,” he explained.

He also noted that his mother cautioned against marrying a firstborn child carrying significant family obligations without personal financial productivity, warning that such dynamics could create long-term stress in a marriage.

“She also told me never to marry someone with the baggage of family responsibilities, especially a firstborn that is not productive,” Chike added.

Taking his mother’s guidance seriously, the singer now asks potential partners detailed questions about their financial independence and family background before pursuing a relationship.
