Kobe Bryant’s grief-stricken widow on Wednesday turned to Instagram to remember their 13-year-old daughter Gianna, writing that “mommy loves you to the moon and back.”
Vanessa Bryant, 37, shared a photo and a series of videos from a jersey retirement ceremony held at the teenage basketball star’s middle school.
“My Gianna. God I miss you,” Vanessa posted. “I’ve been so lucky to have woken up to see your gorgeous face and amazing smile for 13 years. Wish it would’ve been until my last breath.”
The heartbreaking message was posted along with a photo taken in the school’s gym, showing a portrait of the teen next to a table with red and pink flowers arranged to spell out “Gianna.”
The display also included a red floral arrangement of the number 2, for the one Gianna wore on her basketball jersey at the Mamba Sports Academy.
Videos Vanessa shared showed some of Gianna’s classmates singing a song in the teen’s honor. Teachers also shared memories of the 8th grader during the ceremony.
“Gianna was a warrior who gave 110 percent every time she stepped on the floor,” said her basketball coach, as he stood next to the teen’s teary-eyed teammates.
“In my 20 years of coaching basketball, Gigi was one of the fiercest competitors that I’ve ever seen,” he said.
Vanessa lost her husband and their daughter, nicknamed “Gigi,” in a tragic helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on Jan. 26.
