Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan has broken another record on Saturday, claiming the women’s 100m hurdles crown at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan.
The former world champion raced to victory in 12.72 seconds, finishing comfortably ahead of Taiwan’s Bo Ya Zhang and Yi Po-an, who placed second and third respectively.
Amusan’s winning time established a new meet record, surpassing the previous mark of 12.80 seconds set by former world champion and Olympic silver medallist Nia Ali.
The 29-year-old had already shown her class earlier in the competition by cruising through her qualifying heat to secure a place in the final.
She maintained that dominance in the championship race, taking command after clearing the fourth hurdle and gradually extending her lead over the rest of the field.
Amusan’s superiority was evident throughout the race, as she pulled so far ahead that she crossed the finish line before the last competitor had even cleared the final hurdle.
Zhang finished runner-up in 13.17 seconds, while Po-an completed the top three with a time of 13.37 seconds.
