Super Falcons send strong WAFCON warning with 3-0 win over Senegal

A dominant second-half display saw the Super Falcons cruise to a 3-0 victory over Senegal in Ikenne on Monday night, June 8, extending their strong run against the Teranga Lionesses.

Nigeria created several chances in the first half but failed to convert them, despite early pressure.

Washington Spirit forward Gift Monday had the first clear opportunity of the match, but her effort was comfortably saved by the Senegal goalkeeper.

Two minutes later, Joy Omewa came close to breaking the deadlock after being played through by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, but her strike hit the upright.

The Super Falcons also wasted another promising chance following a mix-up between Toni Payne and Ajibade.

Nigeria finally took the lead four minutes after the restart when Omewa rose highest to head home the opening goal. She doubled the advantage in the 55th minute with a composed finish to complete her brace and put Nigeria firmly in control.

Head coach Justin Madugu made a double substitution in the 63rd minute, introducing Asisat Oshoala and Folashade Ijamilusi for Rinsola Babajide and Omewa.

Just three minutes later, Oshoala added her name to the scoresheet, calmly finishing after being set up by Ajibade to make it 3-0.

The Super Falcons continued to create chances for the remainder of the game but were unable to extend their lead further, comfortably seeing out the victory.
