The Super Eagles of Nigeria have so far earned a whopping $2.5m as prize money after reaching the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a 40 per cent increase in prize money a day before the beginning of the competition.
The prize money is different from the bonus and allowances the players received from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The overall winner of the AFCON will pocket $7 Million, while the beaten finalists earn $4 Million.
Quarterfinalists will receive $1.3 Million each, while Round of 16 qualifiers got $800,000 a team. CAF gives the money to the Nigeria Football Federation who then disburse the money to players and staff.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semi-final at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake, on Wednesday.
