Spotify has crowned Nigerian Ayra Starr, the number one female Afrobeats artist of the past year
The streaming giant praised the “Rush” hitmaker as “the pop star of Afrobeats,” underscoring her growing global influence.
She topped Spotify’s list of the top five female Afrobeats artists, with Grammy-winning star Tems taking the second spot.
American-Cameroonian singer Libianca ranked third, followed by Malian-French sensation Aya Nakamura and British-Nigerian artist Darkoo in fourth and fifth place.
Interestingly, South African singer Tyla did not make the list despite dominating recent Afrobeats award shows.
Spotify also unveiled its Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America, with Nigerians completely sweeping the ranking: Rema at number one, Ayra Starr in second place, CKay in third, Burna Boy fourth, and Wizkid fifth.
