Spain defeat Argentina to win World Cup Title

Spain have won the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a tense final that was decided in extra time

Ferran Torres emerged as the hero, scoring the only goal of the match after connecting with a clever assist from Nico Williams, who had headed Pedro Porro’s cross back into the danger area.

Spain controlled the game from start to finish, creating numerous scoring opportunities but struggling to beat Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who produced several outstanding saves to keep his side in the contest.

Argentina’s task became even more difficult late in regulation time when Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a challenge on Pau Cubarsí.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Lionel Messi and his teammates nearly forced a penalty shootout. Messi had a late effort blocked, while Giuliano Simeone fired over the crossbar during Argentina’s final push for an equaliser.

Spain finished the match with 20 attempts on goal, while Argentina managed just two shots, both of which came in extra time.

The victory secured Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title and ended Argentina’s reign as world champions.
