Afrobeats singer Skales has opened up about how an unexpected viral moment linked to Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal breathed new life into his music journey.
The resurgence followed a video of the teenage football star dancing to Skales’ 2015 track Shake Body, a clip that spread rapidly across social media and reintroduced the song to a new global audience.
The renewed buzz, according to Skales, quickly translated into fresh attention and career-changing opportunities.
Sharing his testimony at Harvesters Church, the singer reflected on how the beginning of 2025 was a deeply spiritual phase for him, defined by intense prayers and prolonged fasting.
He said the period marked a turning point after years of feeling overlooked and ridiculed.
“Earlier this year [2025], I prayed a lot, I fasted a lot; I’ve never fasted like this year. I told God that he needed to bless me because I’m being laughed at and my career just looked funny. I wrote down seven prayer points, and all of them happened in one day. The one that changed my life was when a kid in Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, did a simple dance step to my song, and it went viral and changed my whole life,” he said.
The viral dance not only restored Skales’ visibility in the industry but also opened doors to major international platforms.
One of the standout moments was an invitation to perform at Barcelona’s Copa del Rey celebration, a prestigious event tied to the club’s success.
