Cristiano Ronaldo’s son has been called up to represent Portugal’s under-15s side at a tournament this month.
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr could have chosen to play for Spain or the United States, but has now been called up for Portugal for the first time.
The 14-year-old is currently playing within Al-Nassr’s academy having followed his father to Saudi Arabia. His nascent career has seen him represent the youth teams at Juventus and Manchester United – and he now looks set to get to don the red of Portugal for the first time.
The youngster has been named in the squad for the Portugal side that will take part in the Vlatko Markovic International Tournament in Croatia between May 13 and 18. It is his first international call-up and is the next step in his dream to become a professional player like his father.
The news was celebrated by Ronaldo, who is still playing in Saudi Arabia after turning 40 in February. “Proud of you, son!” he wrote on Instagram over a screenshot of the announcement.
Ronaldo Jr has reportedly been impressing behind the scenes at Al-Nassr, where he trained two years above his age group at the Mahd Academy in 2023. He is joined in the young Portugal squad by players from Tottenham, Braga, Porto and Vitoria.
Ronaldo has supported his eldest son in his pursuit to follow in his footsteps, but is also keen not to put any pressure on him.
