Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has rejoined South African side Chippa United, five months after leaving the club by mutual consent
The Eastern Cape outfit confirmed the return of their former first-choice goalkeeper on Sunday ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, ending months of speculation over his future.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome @nwabali32 back to the Chilli Boys,” the club wrote on social media.
In a separate statement, the club added, “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
Nwabali parted ways with Chippa United in February 2026 after requesting to leave in search of a new challenge.
The 30-year-old was linked with clubs including Raja Casablanca, Al-Ettifaq and Queens Park Rangers. He also came close to joining Simba SC before negotiations reportedly collapsed over personal terms and financial issues.
Since arriving from Katsina United in 2022, Nwabali established himself as one of the league’s top goalkeepers.
His impressive displays earned him Nigeria’s number one spot, and he played a key role in the Super Eagles’ run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, where he was one of the tournament’s standout performers.
