Tory Lanez’s legal team has presented new evidence they claim could exonerate the rapper, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
In a press conference on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Lanez’s attorneys argued that he did not fire the weapon that injured Megan. They introduced a statement from a bodyguard alleging that Megan’s former friend, Kelsey Harris, was actually the shooter.
The defense also revealed updated forensic findings, citing a 0.001% probability that Lanez’s DNA was found on the gun—suggesting he may never have handled the weapon. Lanez’s legal team has accused the prosecution of bias and claimed the case was influenced by political and media pressure. They are now calling on California Governor Gavin Newsom to review the case and intervene.
This development comes shortly after Lanez was stabbed 14 times in prison by another inmate, Santino Casio. He sustained injuries to his back, torso, face, and head, resulting in collapsed lungs. He has since stabilized and is now breathing unassisted at a hospital in Bakersfield.
With new evidence and mounting public attention, Lanez’s team is pushing for his conviction to be overturned and has hinted at the possibility of a retrial or appeal.
