Senator Ned Nwoko has addressed the arrest of Ms. Izuegbu Anthonet, popularly known as Ann, a close friend of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, amid widespread speculation and social media commentary
In a statement released by his communication team, Nwoko clarified the basis of her arrest, condemning the “misleading and inflammatory narratives” circulating online. He described these claims as “false, reckless, and deliberately intended to distort the facts surrounding her arrest.”
According to the statement, Ann was arrested for criminal defamation, following public claims that Senator Nwoko physically assaulted his wife, Mrs. Laila Nwoko, causing a miscarriage. “These claims are entirely false. No such incident occurred, and no miscarriage resulted from any alleged violence,” the statement read, adding that the allegations were made without evidence and appear to be part of a coordinated attempt to reinforce unsubstantiated domestic violence claims.
The statement also accused Ann of being involved in the procurement of an illegal abortion for Regina Daniels during her marriage to the senator. It alleges that the act involved administering controlled substances, which reportedly caused Regina to bleed for weeks. Nwoko’s team described the circumstances as “gruesome” and insisted that the matter is on record, having previously been publicly referenced by Regina herself.
A formal witness statement, dated October 29, 2025, submitted to the Area Commander at Maitama Police Station, reportedly details Ann’s ongoing involvement in sourcing, handling, and administering illegal substances to Regina and others. The statement also mentions identifiable suppliers and corroborative observations provided to law enforcement.
The communication team emphasized that Ann’s arrest followed a social media post in which she issued threats, derogatory remarks, and repeated defamatory accusations against the senator and his wife — conduct described as criminally defamatory and provocative.
“It is important to emphasise that this matter is not a social media dispute but a law-enforcement issue grounded in evidence, witness testimonies, and due process,” the statement read. “Any attempt to mischaracterise the arrest as suppression or victimisation is false and misleading.”
Ann was reportedly arrested in Lagos on January 12, 2026, detained for two nights, and released on January 15, with her case adjourned until March 5, 2026. Nwoko and his family said they would continue to respect the ongoing investigation and urged the public to rely on verified facts and allow the law to take its course.
The arrest comes amid a wider, ongoing public feud between Nwoko and Regina Daniels, which has included conflicting allegations of abuse, substance use, and legal disputes between the parties.
