Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick and provided two assists as Argentina dominated Bolivia 6-0 in their World Cup qualifying match at El Monumental.
The 37-year-old’s vintage performance included opening the scoring and setting up goals for Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez. He then sealed his 10th international hat-trick with two late goals, taking his tally to 112 goals for Argentina.
Messi expressed gratitude for the fans’ adoration, saying, “It’s emotional to hear them chant my name. We enjoy this connection with the fans and love playing at home.”
Regarding his future, Messi remained non-committal, stating, “I haven’t set a deadline. I’m just enjoying this moment. These could be my last games, so I’m taking in all the love from the people.”
Argentina’s win maintained their top spot in the Conmebol qualifying section, positioning them well for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
Coach Lionel Scaloni praised Messi, saying, “It’s a joy to watch him. He never ceases to amaze us. I just ask him to keep playing as long as he can.”
