Man United signs Andrey Santos from Chelsea

Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea in a deal worth £48 million as the club continues its midfield overhaul

The 22-year-old has signed a contract until June 2031, with the option of a further year, after successfully completing his medical. United reached an agreement with Chelsea last week before finalising the transfer.

Director of football Jason Wilcox described Santos as a major addition to the squad.

“Andrey is an outstanding midfielder with excellent technical qualities and the ability to influence games at both ends of the pitch. He was a key target for us, and while he has already shown his quality at the highest level, he still has enormous potential to develop further.”

Santos featured 43 times for Chelsea last season and was part of the squad that won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.

Reacting to the move, Santos said joining Manchester United was a dream come true.

“Everything about Manchester United is special. It is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented. I am excited to work under Michael Carrick because he is the perfect coach to help me improve and achieve my ambitions. I have also heard great things about the club’s ambition and the atmosphere within the squad, and I can’t wait to compete for major trophies.”

The Brazilian has already joined training at Old Trafford and could make his first appearance during United’s pre-season opener against Wrexham on July 18.

Meanwhile, United are also closing in on a move for Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans. The Belgian international has a release clause in his contract, making negotiations easier, and talks are understood to be at an advanced stage.

However, the club has shelved plans to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson after medical assessments reportedly raised concerns over an injury issue.
