Man City players to reimburse travelling fans after shock 3–1 defeat in Norway

Manchester City players have pledged to reimburse travelling supporters after a shock 3–1 Champions League defeat to Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in freezing Arctic conditions.

City suffered an unexpected setback on Tuesday night as Bodo/Glimt claimed their first-ever Champions League victory. Kasper Hogh struck twice in quick succession before Jens Petter Hauge added a spectacular solo goal. Rayan Cherki pulled one back for City, but a second-half red card for Ballon d’Or winner Rodri compounded a difficult night for the English champions.

Following the match, senior players Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland released a joint statement acknowledging the effort and loyalty of supporters who made the long trip to northern Norway.

“Our supporters mean everything to us. It was a lot of travelling for the fans who supported us in the freezing cold throughout a difficult evening for us on the pitch,” the statement read. “Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodo is the least we can do.”

The players will refund all 374 travelling fans, reimbursing a total of £9,357, with each supporter having paid around £25 for a ticket.

Kevin Parker, speaking on behalf of Manchester City’s Official Supporters Club, praised the gesture, describing it as another example of the strong bond between the team and its fans. He added that while the defeat was disappointing, attention now turns to the next fixture, with supporters expected to rally behind the team once again.

City will look to bounce back when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side currently sit second in the Premier League with 43 points from 22 matches, seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
