Nigerian video director Femi Dapson has revealed how financial readiness influenced the timing of his relationship with his wife, Simi Sanya
He explained that feeling financially secure was a key factor in giving him the confidence to approach her.
Dapson shared that earlier in life, he deliberately avoided romantic pursuits because he didn’t feel economically stable. While acknowledging that emotions are important, he said having a solid financial foundation is crucial for any serious relationship.
He recounted first meeting Simi at a time when he felt he had little to offer. Despite being interested, he refrained from making a move, believing it would have been irresponsible to pursue a relationship without financial stability.
Their paths crossed again later at a wedding in Akure. By then, Dapson said his career had improved, giving him the confidence to approach Simi and start a conversation that eventually led to marriage.
Dapson shared these insights during The Love and Money Conversation hosted by Meristem Nigeria, a discussion that explored how money and love intersect in long-term relationships.
Describing himself as a “gifter,” he noted that financial stability allows partners to express affection more comfortably and helps prevent misunderstandings. His story, he said, demonstrates that patience and preparation can strengthen a relationship, allowing love to flourish once basic financial concerns are addressed.
