Nigerian football legend Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha is backing the Super Eagles to turn things around and qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — but only if they take matters into their own hands.
Despite a rocky start in the qualifiers, Okocha believes there’s still a path forward — but it’s going to take nothing short of perfection.
The Super Eagles gave fans a glimmer of hope with a win against Rwanda, only to stumble again with a frustrating 1-1 draw at home against Zimbabwe. That result pushed Nigeria down to fourth place in their group, trailing South Africa by six points.

Still, Okocha — who has represented Nigeria at three World Cups — isn’t counting the boys out just yet.
“If we want to give ourselves any chance of qualifying, we have to be thinking of winning all our remaining matches,” he told iDiski Times.
“Bafana Bafana are top of the group — it will be a tough game, but I believe we can go there and win. If we want to qualify, those are the games we need to win.”
