Veteran Nollywood actor Kevin Ikeduba has announced plans to leave the Nigerian film industry, citing financial struggles despite spending over two decades in the business.
Speaking about his experience, Ikeduba said, “I’ve spent over 25 years in Nollywood, but the reality is, it hasn’t rewarded me the way people assume.”
The actor explained that although many believe Nollywood stars enjoy wealth and comfort, his personal reality has been different. He admitted that his earnings have not matched the expectations often associated with a long-standing career in the industry.
Stating his reasons for seeking a fresh start, he added, “I still can’t afford the kind of life I want. That’s why I’ve decided to step away from acting and relocate permanently to the U.S.”
Ikeduba also revealed that he is open to exploring entirely new career paths once he relocates. “If everything works out, I might even join the army there or find a solid job to build a better life,” he said.
His comments come amid the rising trend of Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad, commonly referred to as “japa,” as economic pressures continue to push professionals across various sectors to consider life outside the country.
For Ikeduba, the decision marks a turning point, as he looks beyond Nollywood in pursuit of stability and a more fulfilling future.
